DIY: Penholder

Näistä pyydetään aivan turhan korkeaa hintaa kaupoissa! Eivätkä ole edes erikoisen hienoja. :--( 

Esittelenpä teille nyt nopean, helpon ja hyvin edullisen (ilmaisen) tavan valmistaa juuri sellaisen kynätelineen kuin haluat! :---)

Last year I made these!

Tarvitset / You'll need

1. Tyhjän ja pestyn tölkin/purkin. / An empty and clean can.

Jos omistat jonkun hienon näköisen tölkin, josta et haluaisi luopua, saat siitä tällä tavoin itsellesi hienon ja käytännöllisen koristeen! / If you have a nice looking can that you don't want to throw away, this is the great way to reuse it and still enjoy it's beauty!

2. Kangasta tai muuta mieleistä materiaalia. / Fabric or any other material you like.

Hyvä tapa saada vanhat tilkkupalat taas hyötykäyttöön! / Great way to use those old small pieces of fabric!

3. Narua, koristenauhaa tai pitsiä. / Twine, ribbon or lace.

Näin saat terävät reunat peitettyä ja samalla koristeltua kauniiksi. / That's how you'll get those sharp edges covered up.

4. Sakset, liimaa ja teippiä. / Scissors, glue and tape.

Voit myös halutessasi koristella reunoja esim. helmillä. Oma mielikuvitus on vain rajana! / If you like you can also decorate them with other stuff like pearls. Use your imagination!

Sitten seuraa näitä ohjeita niin saat (toivottavasti) unelmiesi kynätelineen! / Now, follow these instructions and you'll get the penholder of your dreams! (Hopefully.)

1. Your choice of weapo-- I mean- material. 
Leikkaa valitsemasi materiaali oikean muotoiseksi. Voit käyttää saksia tai mattoveistä/askarteluveistä. Kannattaa kuitenkin leikata vain materiaalia. Ja jos tiedät olevasi huono leikkaamaan, pyydä kaveriasi joka on hyvä teräaseiden kanssa. / Cut the material how it's needed. Don't cut yourself or anyone near you. 

2. Prepare your weap-- materials.
Taita alareuna sisäänpäin. Voit myös teipata taitoksen halutessasi. Jos olet päättänyt tehdä isomman kupin, taittele pitkä reuna kuvan mukaisesti ja leikkaa hieman ylimääräistä pois. / Fold the lower edge of the fabric (or whatever material you chose). If you like, you can seal it with tape. If you decided to make the bigger cup, then fold the long edge just like in the picture and cut off the spare edges. 

3. Get ready...!
Asettele kangas paikalleen. Teippaaminen on melkeinpä välttämätöntä tässä vaiheessa, jos haluaa tasaisen ja tiukan päällysteen purkkiinsa. Isommassa purkissa tässä vaiheessa reunan liimaaminen paikalleen olisi seuraavana vuorossa.  / Set the fabric on place. Taping it to the can at this point is pretty much necessary so the covering will be tight and steady. For the bigger cup you'll be gluing that edge on place. 

4. ...Glue!
Liimaa voi levittää joko suoraan purkkiin, kankaaseen tai molempiin. Kulmikkaassa kupissa olisi hyvä levittää liimaa myös nurkkiin. Älä levitä liimaa koko alueelle! Alareunan liimaaminen on tärkein, yläreunan voi jättää myös liimaamatta. Isomman kupin tulisi näyttää nyt tältä. / You can apply the glue either to the can, fabric or both. If your cup has corners, remember to glue those too. Don't apply the glue to the whole area! Gluing the bottom edge will be the most important at this part. It's not necessary to glue the top edge. Bigger cup should look like this at this point.

5. Make it clean.

6. Pinc pinch.
Nipistä nurkat tiukoiksi ja tasaisiksi. Tölkeissä tätä ei tarvitse tehdä, joten painele vain reuna normaalisti kiinni ja siirry seuraavaan vaiheeseen. Tölkissä kankaan taittaminen sisäpuolelle ei sujukaan niin nätisti kuin kulmikkaissa purkeissa. Leikkaa kankaan reunasta lähes tölkin reunaan asti (jätä kuitenkin muutama milli leikkaamatta) ja toista viillot noin 3 cm välein. Leikkaa myös päällekkäin menevistä kankaista alakangas tölkin reunaan asti pois. / Pinch those corners tight and steady. You can't do this with cans, so let's go to the next step. Folding the fabric to inside of the can isn't so easy as in square ones. You need to cut the edge of the fabric almost all the way to edge of the can (remember to leave about 2mm uncut) and repeat this in every 3 cm. Also cut the overlapping fabrics lower fabric to the edge of the can off.  

7. Tea Time!
Ollaan jo puolessa välissä! Kulmikkaiden kuppien kankaat voi vain taittaa ja liimata paikalleen vähän tasoitellen. Nyt on aika kehua itseä ja pitää ansaittu tee tauko. :) / Half way there! The square cartons fabrics can easily be folded to the inside and glued on place. Tap it well and let it be. Now it's time to praise yourself and have a nice cup of tea. :)

8. Pick up your bulletsss!
No! Not really bullets. Unless you actually want to decorate your cup with bullets - then go ahead!

9. Prepare your product.
Braid, glue, whatever you need to do.

10. Decorate.
Reunoille tulevat koristeet on hyvä liimata koko matkalta ja alkuun on hyvä jättää vähän ylimääräistä, jotta reuna ei purkaudu eikä irtoa. / Glue well and stuff.

11. Make it perfect!
Liimaa letti kulma kulmalta paikalleen. Lisää halutessasi enemmän yksityiskohtia.
Jos haluat pohjankin peitettyä, jätä vain alareunan taittelu välistä ja sen sijaan jätä muutama sentti alareunaan ylimääräistä. / Glue the braid corner by corner. Add some more details.
If you want to cover up the bottom of the cup, just skip the folding part from the bottom edge and instead just leave like couple of centimeters fabric over the bottom line. And before gluing the decorations, glue the fabric on its place. 

12. Finishing touch.
Liimaa letin pääty paikalleen ja leikkaa ylimääräiset päädyt pois. Ihan tosi, laita sitä liimaa. Kunnolla.
Löysin myös ulkomaan rahoja jostain ja nuo japanilaiset kolikot oli sen verran nättejä, että päätin niitäkin sitten liimailla purkkiini.
Pohjan saa peitettyä samalla tavalla, kuin joululahjan paketoisi. / Glue end of the braid well and cut off the spare ends. Seriously, use that glue. A lot. I also found some foreign coins and thought that the japanese ones were kinda pretty. If you got some random but pretty stuff around your home, just use it!
For the bottom, just glue the edges and wrap it like a christmas present.

13. Use it!
Kaikki on nyt valmista ja voit vihdoin ottaa purkkisi käyttöön! Itse laitoin tuohon ensimmäiseen mun malesia kahvi -pussit, koska tuo sopii niin hyvin mun keittiön sisustukseen! Toiseen kuppiin päätin laittaa mun sulkakynän, sinetöintivahan ja -leimasimen sekä mustepullon. Ja viimeinen on täydellinen mun kauneustuotteita varten! / Everything is done now and you can start using it! I decided to use the first one to keep my white coffee packets in it, since it fits so well with my kitchen decoration! Second one I will use to keep my quill, sealing wax, ink and my wax seal stamp. And the third one will be perfect for my beauty products!

This baby looks so perfect with my medieval letter writing set!
